Laskey Tuba mouthpieces
Like the instrument, Laskey Tuba Mouthpieces are a towering presence in low brass playing. With a thicker sound and more complex geometry, every aspect of a Laskey Tuba Mouthpiece, from the iconic rim to the exterior shape and cup, has been carefully designed to provide the clear articulation, precise slotting, and crisp response.
The B Series Tuba Mouthpiece is a deeper version of the G Series, providing a wonderful, full sound in the low register. A great choice for those trying to make smaller tubas sound bigger.
The C Series Tuba Mouthpiece is a moderately shallow bowl cup, lending itself well to solo performances on Eb and F bass tubas. An ideal choice for playing solo on the recital stage, or for soaring
The F Series Tuba Mouthpiece is similar to the Helleberg model, but approximately 1/3 shallower.over ensembles.
The Geib-style G Series produces a more brilliant sound than the H Series and works incredibly well on rotary valve tubas.
The Helleberg-style H Series features a relatively straight-sided cup that blends into a concave funnel as it enters the throat. This model is the preferred choice for piston valve tubas.
K is for Kerrigan: Designed in collaboration with Chuck Kerrigan, Low Brass Product Manager at the Eastman Music Company, the Laskey K Series represents a quantum leap in F Tuba Mouthpiece development. This mouthpiece pairs a unique rim contour that is a dramatic shift from standard Laskey rims, with a mid-shallow bowl that brings brilliance and tonal presence to solo and orchestral playing. Available in three rim sizes (28, 30 and 32), most players prefer the 28-rim, which provides an optimal balance of articulation and response for more athletic repertoire.
After testing numerous tuba makes and models, two shank sizes were developed to meet the needs of a wide variety of mouthpiece receivers: American (US) shanks fit most American made and styled instruments, while European (EU) shanks fit many European made and styled instruments, with the exception being most 6/4 CC tubas, which require the EU shank.
American (US) Tuba Shank Measurements:
Top: 15.44mm/0.608"
Bottom: 13.31mm/0.524"
Taper Angle: 1.41 degrees
European (EU) Tuba Shank Measurements:
Top: 15.85mm/0.624"
Bottom: 13.77mm/0.542"
Taper Angle: 1.37 degrees
